On the surface, it might look like I just develop marketing strategies, brand identities, and websites for small businesses. But in reality, working with me is the beginning of an enduring partnership–where your business is uplifted and your personal wins are celebrated. As a mother, friend, woman, and professional, I’m on your team in any way possible.
Novel Marketing Co. is a cozy homebase for small business owners to get comfy and clear their heads from being immersed in the chaos of entrepreneurship. When it feels like everyone has an opinion and a “must try” new strategy, I’m here to be a sounding board and someone you can trust to help you make decisions that will serve the future of your business. For my clients and I, it’s not just about quick wins and high cash months. Branding and marketing is about bolstering your business to weather any storms and leaving a lasting legacy.
I stumbled into the world of marketing and brand strategy over a decade ago, after receiving my BA in fine art and landing in a serendipitous social media management role out of college. For the majority of my corporate career, I lived and breathed branding, putting my personal life aside for the opportunity to work, learn, travel, and collaborate. When my husband and I decided to start a family, it was hard for me to put the hustle behind me. So much so that I pushed myself to my absolute limits, sacrificing my mental and physical health for the sake of “having it all.”
My Story
When my first son was born, I suffered from a nasty case of postpartum depression and ultimately decided to leave behind my high-demand job for a position closer to home. I stepped into a director-level marketing role and was immediately miserable. I watched as the women around me were undervalued and underpaid. I listened to my boss compare maternity leave to a Caribbean vacation. I forced myself back into the office only 9 weeks after giving birth to my second son, only to be told that my job was “easy” by the man who stepped in during my (too short) leave.
So, I quit. I left the corporate world behind, and was forced to redefine my sense of self-worth that had been wrapped up in my high-pressure career for so long. Staying at home with two young kids and a very busy husband, I wasn’t ready to leave my love for marketing and strategy behind. That’s when Novel Marketing Co. was born. I took calls during nap time. I woke up at 4am to design in peace before the babies started fussing. I worked long after they went to bed. I did everything I had to do in order to make this thing work.
I really believe that women are magic. We make and nurture people. We grow businesses. We transform communities. It is literally in our nature to create something beautiful out of absolutely nothing. I’m so proud to work alongside the truly extraordinary, mostly female entrepreneurs that I do. I feel so lucky that I get to help them tell their stories and share their genius with the world.
